Prevention of land degradation of 10 hectares of land in Kara-Koyun gorge of Shadykan aiyl okmotu, Bakai-Ata rayon, Talas oblast by mountain planting of local species of trees and shrubs as well as of species included in the Red Book of Kyrgyzstan, fencing and organization of irrigation.

The concept of the project consists of planting saplings in the territory of 2 hectares for strengthening the slopes as well as demonstration of irrigation system, which is based on collection of water from springs in the territory of 10 hectares into specially equipped storage basin with further redistribution of it.

Gender Focus

As part of Jamaat part 6 women.

Notable Community Participation

Heads of Local self-government, regional Committee for environmental protection, the Union of water user Associations, district forestry, members of the Jamaat will be included in the composition of the Committee, in the work of the monitoring, evaluation of the Jamaat on the project.

Significant Participation of Indigenous Peoples

Negotiations were held with villagers, local deputies and the head of Local self-government, with the head of the district forestry, rural schools to clarify the objectives. All were interested by the project.

Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods

Positive solution of tasks of the project , these questions have important conservation value. And Jamaat has its contribution in addressing global challenges such as biodiversity and preventing land degradation.

Policy Impact

The composition of the management Committee of the project will include heads of local self-government, regional Committee for environmental protection, Jamaat, Chairman of the UNDP Talas oblast, members of the Jamaat.

Replication of project activities

The experince was replicated in Kyzyl-Suu village of Issyk-Kul province of Kyrgyzstan.

Project sustainability

The project is sustainable, as there are fruit trees and fast-groing trees, planted at the territory of two hectares, that now serves the base for income generation for the members of CBO "Aidake Ata".

There were no significant policy influence within this project.

Capacity - Building Component

Will be conducted, training, meetings and seminars.

Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment

Will be made 2 advertising Board on the activities of the project. Will be released articles about the project in the Republican newspaper "Aiyl demi", the regional newspaper Talas turmushu", broadcast on regional TV.

Project Results

Within project KYR/SGP/OP5/Y2/CORE/LD/13/02 members of the CBO ?Aidake Ata? planted saplings of the Red-listed and endemic trees in the territory of 2 hectares for strengthening the slopes. In result the number of local emergency situations (mudflows) has been decreased.
Also grantee created an innovative demonstration irrigation system, which is based on collection of water from springs in the territory of 10 hectares into specially equipped storage basin with further redistribution of it.
