The Kande-Tukombo area covers 27,000 hectares in Nkhatabay district in Traditional Authorities:Fukamapiri,Malengamzoma and Zilakoma. The landscape in the area comprises of mountainous areas covered with miombo woodland vegetation types. Also contains diverse terrestrial, semi-aquatic and aquatic ecosystems and biodiversity.
However, the ecosystems and biological diversity are being degraded by pollution increase resulting in clearance of vegetation for human settlements and pressure on exploitation of natural resources to meet the needs of an increasing population that include: encroachment into forest areas, overexploitation of forests resources for firewood, tobacco racks and fish racks, wood for canoe construction.
Primary Objective:
To develop community based approaches for sustainable management of local landscapes, ecosystems and biological diversity in order to maintain and restore provisioning of essential ecosystem services and landscape resilience while contributing to local livelihoods and well being
