Daluwala Kalan Gram Panchayat Community Landscape Development Initiative
Daluwala Kalan Gram Panchayat Community Landscape Development Initiative
Doon Valley is well known for its biodiversity and the Rajaji National Park (RNP) situated in this valley was created in 1983 which is spread in three districts of Uttarkhand State. The Park has the largest area representing Shiwalik Eco-system which is the home to a large number of animal, bird and plant species. This is surrounded by 66 villages which are historically dependent on forest resources for their livelihood and approximately 50,000 cattle enter the park daily for grazing. This puts enormous pressure on the Park and its eco-system. With support from Sir Ratan Tata Trust and GEF/UNDP SGP, a demonstration alternative livelihood model was developed in Rasulpur Village. Now under COMDEKS approach, the entire Daluwala Kalan Gram Panchayat will be covered (including Rasulpur, Rasulpur Tongia and Daluwala Kalan villages) to give it a comprehensive biodiversity conservation approach. The traditional ecological knowledge and modern science will be integrated and innovative ideas of resource use (like cyclic use of natural resources) will be introduced in the area.
