Strengthening local artisans for conservation, enterprise and livelihoods based on local resources under convention on biodiversity conservation
The project aims at reviving traditional art, knowledge, skills to provide livelihood to nomadic women using 3R (Recycle,Reduce and Reuse) process helping climate change and environment conservation. The waste cloth collected from boutiques; tailoring units,Cloth companies, cloth export houses are to be given to nomadic women from Kalbeliya (Snake charmers) and Banjara communities in far off nomadic hamlets in Rajasthan and Haryana States of India.
They are encouraged through skills up-gradation to create pouch sets, other market based products in goodri art which they excel in reusing of the resources in different ways. Also, promoting the use and link to urbane markets of local/traditional food items, from traditional food crops produced in the villages in the proposed project areas. This will prompt better production and conservation practices in the local villages in the area.
With a mission to empower, address and engage Tribal and Nomadic Communities of Banjaras, Snake Charmers and Jogis into evolving environment friendly project called " Goodri-from waste to social wealth" project would be paving way to treat and deal with waste cloth generated by middle and upper class and being reused for creating Goodri products thereby reviving age old dying art called "Goodri" which needs to continue by developing skills for the same among younger generation.
"Recycles" often lack formal recognition, equal rights, secure and safe livelihoods and dignity which need to be addressed through the project by evolving it to a successful 'business model'.
