The project for the first time introduced a comprehensive and effective system of mercury-vapor lamps utilization in Lugansk region. It procured special containers and established the mechanism for collection and transportation of used mercury-vapor lamps in institutions and organizations of the region.
Apart from the practical activities, the project strongly focused on information campaign for the general public. In particular, 333 schoolchildren took part in ten ecological lessons; 233 participants were engaged in two project presentations. As part of the National Forum ?Waste Management in Ukraine: Legislation, Economy, Technologies? 182 people participated in the workshop ?Rules of Utilizations of Mercury-Vapor Lamps? and 385 people took part in round table discussions to establish a system of lamp utilization. Overall, more than 1300 community members and public activists participated in project events. A range of brochures, leaflets and a promotional video significantly contributed to project?s promotional activities, raising public awareness on the issues of recycling and utilization of hazardous waste.
