peermade located in peermade taluk of the Idukki district in Kerala in South India. The idea to cultivate Lemon grass was conceived by PDS for two sites of the peruvanthanam village that had very thin soil coverage with mostly rock exposed all over. The other common cash crops such as cardamom, pepper, coffee and tap root trees were found unsustainable to be grown in these locations because of certain agro-climateic reasons. Therefore the main objective of this project was to help villagers to enagge in aviable and sustainable location specific income generation programme/scheme through lemongrass cultivation and an oil extraction scheme.
