Adaptation to Drought through Improving Accessibility to Water and Adaptive Agricultural technique for Climate Change is improving capacity of farmer to adapt to current climate change (drought) in their community Improving Income generation by increasing rice cultivation season from once to twice per year by accessing to irrigation through canal rehabilitation and applying adaptive agricultural technique (ii) Increasing access to low interest loan from Self Help Groups (SHGs) to diversify their livelihood option including home gardening, rice cultivation, animal raising and aquaculture and (iii) Increasing access to drought tolerance rice seed through rice seed banks. The project will implement in 5 villages in Chansor commune Soutr Nikum district.
Goal:
By November 2013, 450 families including 157 females in 5 villages at Chansor commune, Soutr Nikum district, Siem Reap province will improve their rice yield from 1.5tons/ha to 3tons/ha by enhancing accessibility to irrigation through canal rehabilitation to adapt to drought.
Objectives:
Income generation for 450 families including 157 females in 5 villages at Chansor commune, Soutr Nikum district, Siem Reap province will be improved by increasing rice cultivation season from once to twice per year by accessing to irrigation through canal rehabilitation and applying adaptive agricultural technique.
? 450 families including 157 females in 5 villages at Chansor commune, Soutr Nikum district, Siem Reap province will access to low interest loan from Self Help Groups (SHGs) to diversify their livelihood options including home gardening, rice cultivation, animal raising and aquaculture activities.
? 450 families including 157 females in 5 villages at Chansor commune, Soutr Nikum district, Siem Reap province will develop a greater drought tolerance of rice seed through rice seed banks.
Project Strategies:
- Improving accessibility to water through rehabilitation of canal with 2,000m and 2 water gates construction.
- Providing training on adaptive agriculture techniques.
- Improving access to drought tolerance of rice seed through rice seed banks.
- Diversify livelihood options of farmers by improving access to low interest loan from Self Help Groups (SHGs)
- Mobilisation of contribution and participation from community and commune councils
- Collaboration with Provincial Department of Agriculture for technical support
- Develop project monitoring and evaluation tool with technical support from UNDP SGP CCBAP
Outputs:

- Canal with 2,000m x 2m x 5m x 1.5m rehabilitated and two water gates constructed to support a year round agriculture activities for 450 families including 157females in 5 villages at Chansor commune, Soutr Nikum district, Siem Reap province.
- By the end of 2013, 50 families including 25 females in 5 villages at Chansor commune, Soutr Nikum district, Siem Reap province will increase their capacity to adapt to drought by increasing rice yield through enhancing rice cultivation season from one time to two times per year and increasing rice yield from 1.5tons/ha to 3tons/ha.
- 5 existing SHGs in 5 villages (25families/10females/SHG) will receive grant supports from the project as loan with low interest rate to 100 families/35 females at Chansor commune, Soutr Nikum district, Siem Reap province.
- The members of 5 existing SHGs in 5 villages at Chansor commune, Soutr Nikum district, Siem Reap province will access to loan with low interest rate to diversify their livelihood options including home gardening, animal raising and aquaculture.
- There will have committees of 5 rice seed banks established (5 committee members/2females/committee) in 5 villages at Chansor commune, Soutr Nikum district, Siem Reap province and the committees will have enough capacity to manage their rice bank in sustainability manners.
- The 5 rice seed banks will be supported as rice seed capital from the project for releasing rice seed loan to 450 families including 157females in 5 villages at Chansor commune, Soutr Nikum district, Siem Reap province.
