Project Characteristics and Results
Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods
Beneficiaries received training on soil improvement and environment protection practices such as quick compost making, uses and application techniques. This is aimed at improving crop yield which will in turn increase income generation and improve livelihood in the long run.
some of the trees planted in the woodlots ,particularly cashew, are high value economic trees that are anticipated to bring in considerable income for the community.
Gender Focus
Both men and women contribute to environment degradation in these communities. the women are culturally responsible for fetching firewood for the family, sometimes assisted by their daughters and sons. Thus the site management committees have roughly equal number of both genders (67 female, 87 male) altogether. the project is expected to benefit 4,210 females, 2500 men and 9,426 children.
