Project Characteristics and Results
Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods
An objective of this project is to use beekeeping as an income generating activity and source of livelihood for the community. The communities received training on improved techniques of honey harvesting that can improve both the quality and quantity of the honey and ultimately the income earned.
Marketing strategies of beekeeping products were elaborated on during training so as to fetch fair market prices for beekeeping products.
There will also be trainings on how to make products like candle, body butter and soap from the wax and this will serve as added income particularly for women.
Gender Focus
In these communities, beekeeping is a male-dominant enterprise. However, during implementation of this project, inclusiveness was insisted on. Thus men as well as women were selected for training. 5 out of the 20 trained were women.
