Mtowole-Chavula beekeeping and forest conservation project
The targeted area lies below a range of kuwirwi mountain and its adjacent range of mountains and of village forest/woodlots. A total of 150 farmers with an average of 15 in a group, have for years practiced traditional methods of beekeeping with no tangible results. There has also been rampant cutting down of trees for income and fish racks.
Objectives:
-To promote sustainable forests resources management practices.
-To improve production, processing and marketing of beekeeping farming.
-To strengthen institutional development and capacity building on agri-business and entrepreneurial skills.
Expected results:
-Reduced cutting down of trees.
-Control of bush fires which destroy forest.
-Increase of income from honey proceeds.
-Increased hectares of forested land .
-Controlled erosion
