Enhancing Community Resilience to Climate Variability through Decentralized Solar Energy System in the Afram Plains of Ghana
The overall goal of the project is to improve the living conditions of rural off-grid communities through the use of renewable energy for solar well pumping for domestic and agricultural purposes and solar lights for rural clinics in two different rural communities and additionally, establish two hectares plantation in each of the communities in the Afram Plains district of Ghana.
climate adaptation and mitigation capacities through the promotion of solar energy technologies for water pumping both for domestic and agricultural purposes and electricity services in rural public facilities (eg clinics) and homes of two communities in the Afram Plains District
The specific objectives are;
? Provide fifty two (52) solar electricity for (2 CHIP compounds and 50 house lights) in the two communities of the Afram Plains
? Install two (2) 1,600Wp two solar water pumps to demonstrate the profitability of solar water pumping for irrigable agriculture in off-grid communities.
? Establish two (2) 200Wp two energy service centers (owned and managed by the community) to generate income through the provision of services including phone, lanterns and battery charging, equipment maintenance and repairs of all the solar technologies in the community to over 200 households.
? To build the capacities of four (4) (2 men and 2 women) in each of the two communities in the basic maintenance of the solar PVs and water pumping systems
? Establish six (6) hectares tree plantation (3 hectares in each of the 2 communities) as wind breaks against disasters.
? Establish management systems and build capacity of entrepreneurs to run the project post-action.
Expected Results.
? Two (2) Solar PV systems installed in two public institutions in two beneficiary communities in deprived off-grid Afram Plains.
? Two (2) solar well pumps installed for domestic water supply and irrigation.
? Established 2 functioning energy services enterprises in the two communities.
? Six (6) hectares of woodlot planted in the Afram Plains.
? Established management systems and train four (4) people (2 men and 2 women) technicians in the communities for post ? project sustainability.
