Project supported efforts to combat land degradation by carrying out extensive planting of fruit bearing trees and timber trees in 64 schools and 200 homesteads; and undertook activities to reduce soil erosion, conserve water and improve soil fertility.
A total of 204,400 trees were planted in 64 schools and 200 households and the grantee organization planted trees in its own land. In total, 142 hectares were planted with trees, where also activities to reduce soil erosion, conserve water and improve soil fertility were implemented. It is projected that each school will be earning USD 300 per year, each household USD 600 per year while the grantee organization will earn USD 3,000 per year from the sale of fruits and other products from the trees planted upon maturity.
