Makgabetlwane Village Biogas Project
? The key environmental problems that will be addressed by construction of digesters will be reduction of air pollution.
? Reduction of usage of fossil fuels, which are a major contributor in early child mortality rate, by getting clean energy.
? Education on climate change to the communities.
The project will facilitate the construction of eleven (11) digesters and a tunnel farming equipment for the growing of vegetables. The ten digesters will benefit the community in the following way:
? Saving on the present cost of electricity, by producing cheaper energy from cow dung that is easily available as there are many cattle in Makgebetloane.
? Producing of organic fertilizers which will be used on the tunnel farming.
? The fertilizer can also be sold by house-holds to neighbouring farmers to supplement income as unemployment rate is high and will alleviate poverty.
? The construction of one (1) digester will installed at the disused school as an income generation project for Maleroba as will be let out at a fee to members of the community during wedding and funerals.
? Maleroba will also sell vegetables produced from the tunnels to the market and the community to sustain the project.
? The yield from the tunnel farming will be of such a magnitude that will double in capacity, volume and quality, and easily fetch large amount of money from the market.
Expected results
Output of the above will be that:
Output 1: Eleven digesters in total, ten (10) digesters at the households, one (1) at the school, and tunnels will be constructed and erected in the community of Makgebetloane. They will benefit the community in clean energy, food security and reduction of air pollution.
Output 2: Awareness about green energy climate change will be creating in the community. Organic vegetable will be produced to improve food security.
Output 3: Unemployment will be reduced and large volumes of good quality vegetables will be sold. Reduction of poverty will be addressed and a sense of entrepreneurship will be introduced.
