Enhancing climate change awareness and community resilience to drought stresses in Phambala area
Enhancing climate change awareness and community resilience to drought stresses in Phambala area
Over 80% of farmers in Phambala area, Ntcheu district of central Malawi depend on agriculture to feed themselves and earn an income to buy other necessities. The area has suffered frequent drought and soil erosion. Farming small plots of often infertile land and dependent on just one crop, has made 90% of families to suffer food shortages for 6 months a year. Persistent high temperatures dry out the soil causing crops to wilt and lead to an increase in pests.
