Adaptation measures to climate change in the community Cachaço
Similar to other islands, Brava economy is based predominantly in agriculture. Census data of Agriculture 2004 , on the island indicates that there are 1,246 farms. The island population is represented by 5,451 inhabitants , among whom 49.5 % are male and 50.5 % female .

Livestock and farming are complementary activities. Presently there are around 18,276 animals , of which 653 cattle , 14 sheep , 4,683 goats , 897 pigs , 11,353 chickens , 125 ducks and turkeys , 324 horses and 227 rabbits .

The community of Cachaço has 205 inhabitants ( 110 men and 95 women ) and 52 families, and is inserted in the above mentioned context. In other words, it depends on livestock and small rain fed farming agriculture, therefore highly depended on rain. Therefore, water accessibility is a problem, with direct links to livelihoods. Dependency on water, makes Cachaço families vulnerable and susceptible to poverty.
