The planning grant was used to find partners who could offer expertise in farming techniques as well as identifying volunteer farmers willing to participate in this demonstration project. Two farmers with their families willing offered their land for coffee nurseries to be built to make it easy for distribution of coffee seedlings. Another one hundred and fifty two farmers volunteered to participate in the exercise.
The general idea of replanting coffee is a result of aged coffee trees inability produce quality harvests. Aside from replanting coffee, the technique will not involve further degradation of natural habitat but will be re-using already farmed plots with additional shade and fruit trees being planted to improve pollination and quality of coffee grown.
it is hoped that the high success rate will encourage other farmers to undertake same and the organisation can further replicate the exercise in neighbouring communities and participation of small holder farmers.
The project will contribute to governments recent announcement to work towards rebuilding the once thriving coffee industry and to assist local farmers.
