Conserving Mangroves through the Development of an Informative Website and Community Advocacy
In order to prevent further degradation of the mangrove eco systems and to reduce our vulnerability to climate change, this project aims to document and create an informative website and data base of mangroves and will be complemented by active participation of the island communities in advocacy actions such educating the community on the importance of environmental protection through technical workshops on mangrove conservation and management. In addition, environmental governance workshops will also be held for the island community, which will educate the community on the processes of development activities such as harbor dredging has to undergo before they commence. This will enable the communities to ask the right questions and raise concern to the relevant authorities if they observe any process out of line with the environmental regulations.
The project will be implemented in Haa.Alif Baarah, Haa.Dhaal Kulhudhufushi and Nolhivarahfaru. The rationale for selecting these islands is because they are home to the most vital mangroves in the country
