Sustainable livelihoods through promotion of alternate energy resources in coastal villages of Bhavnagar District
Sustainable livelihoods through promotion of alternate energy resources in coastal villages of Bhavnagar District
?The demand for energy is projected to grow at an annual rate of around 5% which is one of the highest in the world, and the production inability to meet the demand has increased India?s reliance on costly imports.
?Because of the indiscriminate use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides the expenditure on agriculture has gone up and the land fertility has come down resulting in lower yields. This leads to many problems such as deforestation, health impacts and increasing land degradation.
?In rural areas the dependency on fuel wood for cooking is well over 95% and the smoke particles emerge from this give rise to acute respiratory infections among people, mainly women, children and infants. The project therefore talks about alternate energy, so that the need and desire of people are met.
