Supporting pheasant restoration within Kolkheti National park and Ivri, Alazani and Mtkvari floodplain.Strengthening protected area's friend association's capacity. Project Characteristics and Results

Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods

Friends? Association of Vashlovani Protected Areas will assist the population, who have been involved in the project, to sell the pheasants, and to develop an enterprise for making souvenirs and ornaments from colored feathers of Colchis pheasants, which will become an important source of revenue for them in the future.

Gender Focus

If we consider that mostly the women will be engaged in taking care of pheasant flappers, and the schoolchildren and other boys and girls will equally participate in awareness activities. It is possible to say that this issue is addressed during the project implementation

Inovative Financial Mechanisms

brochure will be prepared about rearing and breeding pheasants , it will be published and disseminated among the public. farthermost on site training will be conducted for students, local community and farmers, TV show was broadcaster about Colchis pheasant problems and development of population , 4 story was printed and distributed in local, national and international printed media

Capacity - Building Component

on site training will be conducted for local community and farmers, to gain knowledge how to breed and look after pheasants

Notable Community Participation

students will be involved in pheasants monitoring activities, the study results will be used while working of master research

Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment

the professors and teachers of Ilia University teach useful skills for field work to the students, which they can use during pheasant monitoring. In addition, it will be important to conduct practical trainings in telemetric monitoring for the rangers working in the target territories, which they will necessarily need for their further work. as well as TV shows, newspapers and brochure will promote public awareness about how to create Agricultural product and maintain pheasant farms.

Project Results

The key project result are:

population of Colchis pheasant in the territory of the natural monument Eagle Gorge and its nearby areas was restored
Friends? Association of Vashlovani Protected Areas obtained practical experience in restoring the pheasant in nature , it creates solid grounds for successful restoration of Colchis pheasant in other territories in the future;
Capacities of the pheasantry of Friends? Association of Vashlovani Protected Territories was build, enabling to breed about 1,000 Colchian pheasant in captivity every year;
The population involved in the project gained certain economic benefit, and the students and schoolchildren became more knowledgeable about the conservation issues
