Degradated land (resulted by manganese mining) restoration in Chiatura Municipality
project aims land re cultivation in order to stop degradation caused by manganese mining. Strengthening community participation and awareness raising for environmental problem solving. Creation of map for land and abandoned quarry in the region. Introduction and demonstration of sustainable re cultivation model for suspending land degradation and deforestation processes. Production of tree seedlings important for land re cultivation. Cooperating with the local government to forecast land re cultivation expanses and foresee it in annual budget in order to carry out respective activities.

Project Characteristics and Results
Capacity - Building Component
During the project implementation local were actively participated as a volunteer in the process of planting and soil recultivation activities as well as in advocacy campaign - signs the petition, for asking the Sakrebulo to allocate funds annually for restoring the remaining degraded soils; thus participants capacities in these regards has been increased strongly
Notable Community Participation
In total, there were plenty of meetings organised with the population in the villages: Perevi, Shukruti, Itkhvisi, Rgani, Zeda Rgani, Mgvimevi, Bunikauri, Tabagrebi and 10 meetings with the local government. The environmental awareness and involvement of the public in the project activities were discussed at the meetings. The project coordinator was responsible for organizing and conducting the meetings.
project strongly contributed the strengthening the institute of volunteerism in addressing eco-problems: the youth and schoolchildren were actively participated in trees planting activities in demonstration plots. They were also involved in dissemination of printed materials and other project activities.
