Land use in the Fofal River Command Area Development Project
Land use in the Fofal River Command Area Development Project
?The area under project was considered as a drought prone area in the past and even though the quantum of rain fall has improved but because of the geographical structure of the area, water was running down from seasonal Fofal River. Due to continuous runoff, many problems have been occurred in the area such as land degradation, crop failure, migration of people to urban areas, social unrest, unemployment and the waste of valuable human resources.
?The project is based on the river?s catchment area and the hard core activities in which 35 families and 130 hectares of land are targeted and 34 wells have to be recharged with an additional 300 hectares brought under better productivity
?Vruksha Prem has started off with the seed sowing activities and sprinkled 550 tons of seeds amounting to over 10 million trees.
? The series of masonry check dams with the use of cement, stones, sand and steel are also to be constructed with the local people?s participation in 67:33 ratios which was agreed by the proposed beneficiaries. This has checked water and brought more than 10,000 hectares of land under better productivity.
