Conservation of water use for mitigating droughts through replication and shared learning (MDRS)
?Rajasthan has always been a water deficit state with erratic rainfall pattern due to its geographical and agro- climatic situation in the area, it has faced recurrent droughts practically once in every three years. These droughts results in shortage of food, fodder and water. There is also a great variation between their supply and demand.
?The Average annual rainfall in the whole State is 531mm, but it ranges from 100mm in Jaisalmer District to 800 in Jhalawar District.
?With an acute shortage of water with the average availability for 2-3 months only, Water has to be fetched from great distances of an average of 10-14 kms.
?Most of the villagers especially women, children and older people suffer from severe nutritional problems due to unavailability of green vegetables.
?Migration rate is very high in these areas; 739 households out of 983 migrate from here in search of livelihood for eight months in a year.
?Jaisalmer district is deeply impacted by meager rainfall, harsh weather conditions throughout the year, very low agricultural productivity and vegetation cover, where not much of developmental aid and programmes have reached. The project will be taken up in Sankara block of Jaisalmer District and the villages to be covered are Rawatpura, Netasar, Khumansar, Prabhupura and Sohanpura.

Project Characteristics and Results
Policy Impact
Community will be linked to the Government schemes and other official members, so that they can be self reliant in decision making. Links will be formed with Government department?s specially animal husbandry, horticulture and research institutes like Central Arid Research Institute (CAZRI), Arid Forest Research Institute (AFRI). The project will then motivate the local/ state and national government to invest more into local bodies managing the systems and also encourage policy frameworks for innovative technologies.
