The local community will participate in the project, adopting new techniques for implamantation of medicinal agroforestry and learning about commercializing the native medicinal plants.

The rural population of Barro Alto will work towards the implementation of medicinal agroforestry, the construction of a demonstrative unit of medicinal agroforestry, capacity building in local pharmacies. 45 families will participate and benefit directly from the project. Also the setting up of local vegetable gardens of medicinal plants around the community will benefit 198 families which include 792 people.

There is a focus on the participation of women in the rural communities as to value their work with native medicinal plants and the administration of local pharmacies.

These activities serve as an example for the entire local population which sees results in the production and information dissemination among the local communities.

Traditional native medicinal plants is of social and economical value to communities who have guarantied their survival through nature and its components. It is of vital importance to regard these traditions so that they continue to be part of medicinal life in the communities and their livelihoods with a sustainable outlook.
