Ecology System Restoration and Water Supply Connection for Community Livelihood Improvement of Steung Siem Reap Watershed Project (ESRWISRWP)
The project ?Ecology System Restoration and Water Connection for Community Livelihood Improvement of Steung Siem Reap Watershed Project (ESRWISRWP)? will strong contribution to improve livelihood of the villagers in the community by reduce their production expenditure and improve their income in family to insure sustainable agriculture production and improve the condition of the community from low income to better, especially to improve the productivities of agriculture in the area. CDCAM request Ecology System Restoration and Water Connection for Community Livelihood Improvement of Steung Siem Reap Watershed Project (ESRWISRWP) to implement in this area to respond to the need of the community and meet the watershed management strategy of COMDEKS Country Programme Strategy.
1.3 Goal:
To improve the livelihood of rural community by manage water to supply for usage and for improve the agriculture productivities in Svay Leu Commune, Svay Leu District, Siem Reap province.
Objectives:
1. The 479 Famers will be able to improve their income 35% from water management to use and improve their productivities by connection the water from Koulen mountain to supply their agriculture and the agriculture skill in the end of 2014.
2. The 40 demonstration families will become the model by integrated farming and become a member of saving group. This will develop in the best practice film of their success for sharing to other farmers and other stakeholder in the end of 2014
Project activities:
Activities 1.1.1: Meeting with local authority and beneficiary to discuss water connection of 2,500m, build the dam to keep water with the length of 13m, make 2 reservoirs and 1 place to stop the sand flowing to the pipe.
Activities 1.1.2: Advertise for bidder for construction in public place such as Svay Leu commune and other places.
Activities 1.1.3: Organize meeting to establish the procurement committee (procurement committee, Commune council, and CDCAM staff)
Activities 1.1.4: Meeting with procurement committee for public bidding in Svay Leu commune
Activities 1.1.5: Meeting to sign the agreement between success bidder with CDCam (procurement committee, Commune council, and CDCAM staff).
Activities 1.1.6: Build a dam at Chob mountain-hill (Length 13m x bottom 1.5m x high 1m x wide 1m)
Activities 1.1.7: Water pipe connection system of 2500m from the Chob Leu village to Tropeang Kna and and Chob Krom; wide 10cm x Length 2500m (PVC)
Activities 1.1.8: Build 2 water tanks in Chob Krom ( 2m x 1.5m x 2m)
Activities 1.1.9: Build 1 sand filler in Poeuy Svay (2m x 1.5m x 1m)
Activities 1.1.10: Follow up and monitoring the quality procurement committee (Technical officer, Commune Council, and CDCAM?s staff)
Activities 1.2.1: Establish the Water Use Association (WUA) and Select the Management committee?s WUA
Activities 1.2.2: Set up the Water Use Association regulation and WUA?s status
Activities 1.2.3: Disclose the WUA Regulation and Status to the WUA?s members
Activities 1.2.4: Provide capacity building on leadership skill, management, recording of income and expenditure to WUA
Activities 1.2.5: Study tour to Krang Serey Community at Kompong Speu province, exposure on the good practices of the water pipe system, agriculture farming, and saving group.
Activities 2.1.1: Community meeting to selection 40 model farmers in 4 villages (50% women are target) at Svay Leu commune.
Activities 2.1.2: Select the Model Farmer Committee Leader (40 Model farmer, 4 CCs, 4 VCs, and 2 CDCAM staff)
Activities 2.1.3: Model Farmer members meeting to set up the regulation (47 participants)
Activities 2.1.4: Moringa tree nursery (10m x 15m) to distribute for interested farmers
Activities 2.1.5: Provide training on integrated farming technique to 40 model farmers member (Vegetable, Livestock, Moringa-Planting)
Activities 2.1.6: Provide livestock and Maringa?s tree to the 40 model farmers for home gardening.
Activities 2.1.7: Provide Machine to dry up the Maringa leaf/seed, bottle, label, and packaging of Moringa?s products
Activities 2.1.8: Build 2 signs boards on the integrated farming (1 in front of Commune office and 1 more posted at the demonstration side)
Activities 2.1.9: Community Moringa product registered with MAFF and acknowledge by MAFF through quality testing control.
Activities 2.1.10: Monitoring/Evaluation and technical support to demonstration farmer
Activities 2.2.1: Organize a meeting to set up the 4 saving groups which will select from the 40 families by election of their own committee
Activities 2.2.2: Set up the Saving Group and set up regulation of the saving group committee (10person/group)
Activities 2.2.3: Provide training to saving group, recording of income and expenditure procedure
Activities 2.2.4: Top up funding to Saving Group (500$ x 4 Groups)
Activities 2.2.5: Saving Group monthly meeting to follow up saving activities and financial recording monitoring
Activities 2.3.1: Video story and documentary on the good practices of the project
Activities 2.3.2: Publication of the case study to share to other farmers, local authorities, and key stakeholders
Activities 2.3.3: Reflection workshop of the project good practices (25 Authorities, 40 farmers, 4 CDCAM staff, and 5 from key stakeholders)
Activities 3.1: Strengthening Capacity Building to CDCAM?s staff and joint workshop with donor (Semester/Quarterly)
Activities 4.1: Project Ended Evaluation (External Consultant)
Activities 5.1: Quarterly Project Monitoring and Evaluation by CDCAM?s management-team (Director, Admin/finance)
Outputs:
1.1 479 families will have sufficient drinking water and integrated farming activities from the dam, 2 water tanks, and 2,500m water pipe connection system.
1.2 11 Eleven members (4 female) of the Water Use Association Committee fully well train and capable to manage daily activity of the WUA and be able to manage the WUA in term of long term sustainability operation.
2.1 Forty Farmers were selected to be Model Farmer through the integrated farming and Moringa tree nursery (10m x 15m) activity, the Moringa plant will distributed to the home gardening farmers.
