TAKING ENERGY TO THE PEOPLE (TET)
TAKING ENERGY TO THE PEOPLE (TET)
The use of unfriendly methods to generate energy trickles down to the emission of carbon that affects the health of the people themselves; it reduces the concentration of ozone to block most electromagnetic radiation cause by the sun, disintegrating into a global climate change.

These and other actions, if not minimize as it is on the increase, in the near future the sun ray in Liberia might just not be conducive for human habitat; and thus making Liberia vulnerable to desertification, land degradation and other hazardous conditions.

The use of firewood and charcoal are major sources of fuel for rural and urban households in Liberia. Research has shown that immense pressure has been placed on the forest by local communities and businessmen that are massively producing charcoal and firewood for household use and financial gains. About 30% of rural inhabitants and more than 50% of urban inhabitants are consumers of the charcoal with Montserrado County consuming more than half of the production.

The project which seeks to reduce the rate of consumption of firewood and charcoal by local communities through the use of energy efficient stove which will be implemented in towns and villages of Montserrado, Margibi and Grand Bassa Counties that are considered large consumers of firewood and charcoal. The use of eco-stove will reduce the consumption rate of these forest resources as it requires very little quantity to effectively and efficiently produce the needed energy (up to 50% more) for cooking, heating and more.

Project Characteristics and Results
Notable Community Participation
An in-depth consultation has already taken place, with discussions beginning in 2012 with community and stakeholders representative. This proposal has evolved as a direct result of that consultation process and a pre-project development visit which was undertaken from September by the project team .
Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment
Knowledge transfer and capacity building based on personal involvement of local people are at the heart of this project and hence dissemination is an integral aspect of what is planned.
