INITIATING SMALL SCALE FOREST ENTERPRISEDEVELOPMENT AS A CONSERVATION TOOL IN CESTOS SENKWELM AREA
The primary activity of the project will be to conduct a feasibility study in Cestos-Senkwehn and use the gathered information to design and implement a multi-year SSFE development program in the clan. The general activities of the project will include the following:
Assessing existing community institutions such as women and youth groups, Community Forestry Development Committees (CFDCs), and women headed households to determine their primary income generation activities that rely on forest resources and current business organization in their communities.
Producing and presenting the feasibility study report to the target groups and other stakeholders; Developing and producing awareness materials on SSFEs and small business development, for low literate people.
Conducting series of awareness raising workshops and training for the community groups on how-to start up SSFEs and other small businesses; Providing the interested groups start up seed funds to invest in SSFE of their choice; and Developing a comprehensive funding grant application to implement a multi-year scale up of the project.

The project will involve residents of the towns and villages of the both communities aim to strengthen their capacity to develop on current business activities as well as introduce new approaches to small business development in the region. Women and young people will be specifically targeted and will be supported to develop their own businesses that engage in the extraction, processing and marketing of forest products and other agricultural commodities.

Notable Community Participation
An in-depth consultation has already taken place, with discussions beginning in 2012 with community and stakeholders representative. This proposal has evolved as a direct result of that consultation process and a pre-project development visit which was undertaken from September by the project team .
Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment
Knowledge transfer and capacity building based on personal involvement of local people are at the heart of this project and hence dissemination is an integral aspect of what is planned.
