Conservation of Flora and Fauna
The local CBO was approved a Full Grant in October 2013 for a total of USD46, 350.00 under the OP5 STAR allocation. This project will support GEF Focal area of Biodiversity Conservation. The project will aim at encouraging and enhancing environmental conservation and environmentally sustainable practices through the promotion of eco-tourism in the form of hiking tours along the historic Numa Numa trail situated North-east of Wakunai District and South-west of Torokina District, Autonomous Region of Bougainville. The CBO is one of two that SGP will be supporting after the islands 10 year long conflict. The CBO will be working closely with different levels of government to implement the project and setting the way for other local CBO?s to access the grant and integrate environment and conservation awareness into development. In addition a strong focus will be placed on reinforcing traditional practices particularly with respect to environmental conservation and sustainable use of the environment.
