Caribbean Permaculture Research Institute of Barbados
Caribbean Permaculture Research Institute of Barbados which focuses on using Permaculture to address land degradation next to an environmentally sensitive RAMSAR site.

The overall goal of the project is to create a financially solvent organization that will serve as a Permaculture educational facility and tropical site that demonstrates sustainable practices and holistic systems built from the soil up and do so within three years. The third year will focus on training 3 replacement staff members so by the end of the year the project is run by the local people. Building from the soil up, our aim is to demonstrate and educate on how to provide for the needs of humanity while also benefiting the environment.

Objectives:

1. Establish the CPRI Centre of Operations within the first six to twelve months; develop an enabling space to operate and teach from.

2. Design and Implement a Permaculture Whole Systems Design Demonstration Site Plan; repair and regenerate the 15 acres of land into productive sustainable systems starting with a design plan sketched and mapped within the first two months with full implementation within the first two years.

3. Develop and Deliver a Multi-Tiered Permaculture Educational Program over the course of the three years; produce competent permaculture designers and skilled peoples.

4. Conduct Community Outreach; network and advertise CPRI, and build more resilient communities throughout the project; and promote a wide-scope sense of project ownership among communities.

5. Train Three Barbadians to Operate CPRI by the end of year three; ensure CPRI is not only financially sustainable, but also internally sustainable and self-replicating; ensure long-term community ownership and leadership of the project.

In addition to the environmental benefits the project provides two major opportunities for sustainable economic activity through the production and sale of organic agricultural produce and the provision of training courses in permaculture.
