Active involvement of mass media, youth, students and resource-centers ensures awareness raising of people.

Policy Impact

Implementation of the submitted and analogous projects will support the idea of creating a mechanism to identify and prevent the diseases of Colchis box-tree and other plants.

Planning gef grant

In case of availability of medium-sized GEF grants the NGO plans to apply for it. It will support to realization of organizational goals and will focus for enlargement of target areas for whole Samegrelo-Zemo Svaleti Region as the mentioned area remains as natural habitat of Kolkhuri Box-tree; this Species of trees were never been given special attention in regards of its uniqueness for natiral environment and there is deeper interventions are needed for saving the natural appearence of endemic zone of box-trees.

Planning non gef grant

The NGO continues fundrising for future planned projects; this project shwed that other important activities must be placed rather then only incubation of box-tree seedlings and popularizarion of them in the population; these actions incluse sanitery cuttings, appllying systemic and contact chemicals, conservation of natural environment of box-tree habitat, etc.

Replication of project activities

The activities of the project which was considering inclusion of local population delivered positive effect in conservation of Kolkhuri Box-tree with incubating it in small manual greenhouses thus eased the approach to the issue. The end of project will not terminate activities relating to box-tree due to strong promotion of the actions with schools, young people out of educational sustem anf ordinary families; the practice of small greenhouses is already replicated by the respective audience, partner NGOs and CSOs, the Dadiani's Botanical Garden of Zugdidi and other interested bodies, which will continue actions for saving Box-tree forests also from different decieases.

Policy Influence

The idea of conservation of the Kolkhuri Box-tree has been attentionned by the local authorities and regional NGOs actong in the field of bio diversity and conservation. Jointly with the local CSO's the importance of the issue has been emphasized during multilateral meetings with local and regional authorities aiming to consider the issue for the budjet planning.

Project sustainability

The project supported awareness rising on environmental issues among the local population and establishment of respective communication and elaboration of joint initiatives among the young people. The implemantation of the project raised an interest to save unic kolkhuri box-tree in its natural habitat, they gained knowledge on box-tree planting, incubation and treatments.

it is envisaged the young box trees sail, benefiting the individuals employed at the greenhouse facility.

Capacity - Building Component

through information campaign as well as active training public awareness about the local population and young students will be increased about Colchis box-tree importance and its conservation measures.

Project Results

The project has been successfully completed; all planned activities has been placed in the targeted area of action. Infornational booklets and incubated box-tree seedlings has been distributed to population, eco-clubs and Zugdidi Botanical Garden, the Otsindale Monastry, number of incubated box-tree plants has been sold for minimum price and earned funds has been donated to "Imedi" - Day Center of Disabled Children. These actions played for raise of awareness of the population; the process of nursering, incubation and planting is run by the audience using gained knowledge and skills through provided trainings and coaching practices.
The project contacted the Association "Merkuri", the grantee of the GEF SGP working on biodiversity conservation of Zugdidi Botanical garden and offered to them with incubated box-tree seedlings, which helped the colleagues in multiplication of species of the Garden and thus established professional relations with another local NGO. This communication will support both NGOs in fundrising for future joint projects, being implemented in partnership.
