20 women from the community directly involved in handicraft making and 50 other families benefitted from engage in supplying bamboo for the construction industry and for handicraft.

Inovative Financial Mechanisms
Bamboo craft center is established. This center act as demonstration center for tourists as well as a sales center. 15-20 bamboo craft products are in market.

Notable Community Participation
Community of the village has been actively engaged in the project planning and implementation since 2003. They contributed to construction the erosion prevention bunds of Nalanda River bank, planting bamboo species along the river bank, handicraft production. They have been formed as a network to supply raw bamboo wood to handicraft making center and to other needs in the area

Project Results
1.It was estimated that 90% of the bank erosion has been controlled or minimized three kilometers from Delgolla to Salagam along the tributary of the Nalanda Oya. As a result of this 4.4 Ha of riverbank and associated areas have been protected from erosion.
2.Enhancement of bio-diversity along the river banks planted with eight species of 320 clumps of bamboo , 6000 Rambuk ( Saccharum arundinaceum) and 2500 Ketala (Lagenandra ovvatas) clumps and another 7500 bamboo poles being supplied annually for the construction industry as a substitute for the wild hard wood and thereby minimize degradation of forest.
3.Enable to promote production of consumer items and ornaments based on environmental friendly bamboo as a substitute for plastic.
4.The bamboo craft center established by the project on the Jaffna-Kandy A 9 road has pave path for the sustainability of the project by enhancing network for sales and marketing of the bamboo based products.
5.Enhanced new skills among 33% of the community members those do not have any skill or training whereas 100% of the beneficiaries gained skills on bambo craft and related work.
6.An estimated monthly average income of the direct beneficiaries has been increased by Rs. 7500/=.
