Towards mainstreaming SGP hands on training tools for environmental learning through local and indigenous games
Background
Children and youth as target groups have been the topic of many training programmes and generation of a range of educational material in various of GEF SGP projects by different grantees. Training material include varying levels of involvement and engagement, from being the target of trainings, to becoming trainers.
Urban youth and children that have lost their contact with the nature however have access to computers, whereas the locals and indigenous peoples still have a very deep traditional knowledge ? which we would like to help to be preserve- but lacking the self-confidence and mostly looking up to cities. Tapping into their different abilities and needs, different approaches are needed for these various target groups. One of these approaches is linking the training and learning with games and toys. The first Training book for the Nature Game Guards of Department of the Environment, the first educational maps of the wildlife in Iran, collection of indigenous games
