Conservation of biodiversity through promotion of eco-tourism in Fort Munro
Basic objective of the project is conservation of biodiversity through promotion of eco-tourism in Fort Munro.
? Immediate objectives
? Assessment of Fort Munro for sustainable eco-tourism
? Institutional capacity building for sustainable eco-tourism in Fort Munro.
? Social mobilization of local community and potential tourists for sustainable tourism.
? Networking and develop linkages among local and national tour operators and other stakeholders.
? Promotion of cultural heritage and enhanced bio diversity conservation.
To achieve these objectives following activities will be conducted:
assessment of area and publication of reports, tourists guide books and IEC material, formation and capacity building of community based organization, social mobilization of host community through social mobilization campaign, preservation of biodiversity and local culture through celebration of different events and finally networking with local and national tour operators and other stakeholders like government departments, research institutions and universities.
Expected project deliverables
? A list of potential natural, cultural, historical, and heritage attractions
? An estimate of annual and seasonal visitors
? A detailed report on status of socially acceptable, economically viable and ecologically sustainable tourism development in Fort Munro.
? A detailed report elaborating potential for negative environmental impacts and opportunities for tourism to address environmental issues and conserve threatened biodiversity
? A detailed survey report covering all above mentioned areas.
? One eco-tourism guide book and one leaflet developed
? 100 Eco-tourism guide books and 1000 leaflet distributed among tour operators and other key stakeholders at national level
? A community based organization formed and trained to perform its function as an independent organization.
? 20 guides including both male and female trained.
? At least 8-10 national tour operators identified and contacted and at least 2-3 MoUs signed between local and national tour operators
Direct and indirect beneficiaries of the project include both host community as well as existing and potential tourists because project will contribute in sustainable tourism.
