This project was designed to complete all the preparatory work for further progress towards the more effective management of the Ma Kote Mangrove which is also a Ramsar Site. During the PG phase the grantee with substantial assistance from the Saint Lucia National Trust was able to hire a consultant/facilitator who after implementing a consultative process prepared a report titled CONSULTANCY REPORT - Services to prepare Terms of Reference to develop a management plan for the Ma Kote Mangrove and to prepare a Full Grant proposal for submission to the GEF SGP by Lavina D. Alexander. The report revealed the serious capacity constraints of the group; identified the weaknesses and potential of the site; identified the main stakeholders; completed a literature review; prepared terms of reference for the preparation of a Management Plan; and submitted a draft project proposal for a Full Grant (FG).

Discussions are still ongoing with the grantee and the Saint Lucia National Trust on the preparation of the FG. GEF SGP has sent comments on the first draft and a meeting is expected soon to finalise the results matrix for the FG.

Economic Impact: The project employed two persons, both of whom were women who received a total income of XCD$6286 (US$2328).

Capacity Development: There was no training during this project or institutional strengthening.
