The GEF/SGP has been able to take effective steps in supporting the active groups in conservation of the environment in various GEF focal areas during the past eleven years of its activities in Iran. It was successful in promotion of multi-stakeholder approaches, empowering NGOs, local groups and individuals interested in supporting Iran?s environment and has always emphasized on promoting innovative approaches of community-based participation, capacity developemt and inter-sectoral cooperation and collaboration. During these years, wide-ranging experiences of various projects have been accumulated and can be shared with a wider audience for upscaling and mainstreaming.


Considering the importance of the transfer of knowledge from GEF/SGP projects to MENARID project, and following the Letter of Agreement between UNDP and UNOPS signed in October 2013 on ?Institutional strengthening and coherence for integrated natural resources management?, the present proposal aims to transfer

selected good practices and lessons learned of SGP local projects to the provincial stakeholders of GEF MENARID project in Iran and to facilitate the process of experience-sharing through holding workshops, site visits, publications and multimedias as a means of strengthening intersectoral planning and cooperation among, and participation by MENARID implementers at provincial level.


The members of the implementing team are themselves the implementers of the different projects that have been working for conservation of the environment with SGP support and have enough experience in project management, training of local trainers, awareness raising of local communities, facilitation of various projects such as public awareness, sustainable alternative livelihood, empowerment of women advocates of environment and other experiences in empowerment in other fields. They are deeply familiar with SGP projects.



Project activities:

?Developing case studies from GEF SGP good practices, thematic clusters and cross cutting issues like participation and gender for use in workshops of MENARID for project implementators and stakeholders at provincial level

?Publish one booklet of above case studies

?Develop one multimedia of one of the GEF SGP good cases in Farsi and English

?Distribution of 150 package of books, booklets and other advocacy materials produced by GEF SGP projects among MENARID stakeholders and sites at national, proventsial and at the local level

?Preparation and site visits for conducting four provincial workshops

?Conduct four provincial workshops for four MENARID sites

?Present a selection of good GEF SGP cases in the National MENARID seminars

?Coordinate four site visits for MENARID project members to GEF SGP projects

?Develop Star Fish animation

?One short film of four provincial workshop (less than 10 minutes)
