Berries of Stolin District
Project goal ? 1) To create conditions for reducing the degradation of peatlands in the western part of the Stolin district, through their involvement in agricultural use and setting up blueberry plantations.
2) Diversify agricultural production in private households of Stolin district by blueberry production development, including involvement of degraded peatlands.
Project tasks:
1) Plan 20 demonstration sites and their methodological and logistical support;
2) Production of berries, practical training of production technology, the development of distribution channels at 20 private farms with a focus on basic services.
3) Data collection, analysis and information dissemination on technology and economy growing blueberries and environmental aspects of agricultural diversification in the private sector among 2000 households Stolin district.
4) Dissemination of information on the environmental aspects for crop production
Expected results
Environmental outcomes :
- Created conditions for further reduction of peat- swamp soils degradation, through the expansion of plantations blueberry ;
- Involved in agricultural use land of abandoned farmsteads and overgrown weeds ;
- Made a major contribution to improving the biological and genetic diversity in agriculture Stolin District ( farmers included in their rotations a new culture - blueberries )
- The inclusion of blueberries in agro-production by private farms improves phytosanitary situation
Social outcomes:
- Organized two groups of berries producers (20 farms), capable of making decisions and communicate their position on environmental aspect of agroproduction to local authorities;
- Social tensions in the district related to the allocation of land are reduced .
