Improving EEE waste management system in Braslav district of Belarus
Project goal ? Reduction of EEE waste, POPs and hazardous substances entering the landfills, illegal dumps and environment by improving the EEE waste management system at the local level.
Project tasks:
1. Development a strategy for sustainable EEE-waste management using the experts of Center for Environmental solutions, Operator secondary resources, as well as international experts. Discussion and adoption of this strategy jointly with representatives of local authorities and the public of Braslav district.
2. Creation of sustainable system for collection, storage and removal for recycling of EEE-waste in the project region. One of the elements of the created system will be the training of local authorities and the community reps sustainable EEE-waste management practices.
3. To hold Awareness Raising Campaign in the project area with involvement of all stakeholders on sustainable EEEwaste management and POPs impact on the environment and human health.
Expected results
? At least by 50% reduced the amount of EEE-waste entering the landfills and environment in Braslav district
? Reduced the number of POPs entering directly into the environment.
? Strategy for sustainable EEE-waste management developed for the project area.
? At least one public hearing and 6 workshops were held to discuss district strategy for sustainable EEE-waste management.
? A system of sustainable EEE-waste management was placed in the project region.
? Held training for representatives of local authorities and the public on sustainable EEE-waste management (not less than six local authorities and six members of the public).
? A campaign to raise awareness on sustainable EEE-waste management in the project region was held among project stakeholders (issued not less than 500 brochures, 6000 leaflets, published at least 200 posters, 500 information stickers, at least 10 publications in the media , released the video on sustainable EEE-waste management , created ?Green Card? for Braslav district ) .
