COMMUNITY BASED CLIMATE CHANGE ADAPTATION FOR ENHANCING LIVELIHOODS AND WILDLIFE CONSERVATION IN LONGIDO DISTRICT
COMMUNITY BASED CLIMATE CHANGE ADAPTATION FOR ENHANCING LIVELIHOODS AND WILDLIFE CONSERVATION IN LONGIDO DISTRICT
Context:

Pastoral communities often lose significant number of livestock due to predation by large carnivores such as lion, leopard and spotted hyena. Such loss of livestock to predators is putting more strain on the livelihoods of communities who are dependent on livestock for their survival, and who unfortunately have already lost their stock due to drought. The proposed project aim at addressing this problem through demonstrating improved bomas (cattle kraals) that will not only reduce attacks on livestock but will reduce scale of tree cutting for construction of traditional bomas.

Project?sPrimary Objective:

To build capacity through demonstration of improved bomas that reduce livestock predation and conserve forest through reduction of tree cutting for construction of livestock bomas.

Implementation Strategies:

? Promote construction of improved Bomas that use wire fences and acacia species (Commiphora Africana).
? Target 25 households as pilot target group
