ACCELERATING ACHIEVEMENT OF MDGS THROUGH PROVISION OF WATER AND CONSERVATION OF WATER SOURCES AT MBALA-CHAMAKWEZA COMMUNITY, CHALINZE.
Context:

Mbala-Chamakweza in Chalinze is inhabitated by mostly Maasai pastoralists. However, these pastoralists are not nomads because they also do farming. The community has a huge problem of water. They get water from seasonal streams in 5 months per year. During the remaining 7 months, the nearest water source is 10km away. Because of the gravity of the water problem, livestock only drink water once after every two days. Quite often, the community has to grapple with diseases, which are associated with inadequate water. These include cholera, dysentery and diarrhea. The proposed project will drill water and use solar energy for pumping to drawing points.

Project?s Primary Objective:

To accelerate achievement of MDG on water by supporting increased access to water and livestock at Mbala-Chamakweza community in Chalinze, Coastal region.

Secondary Objective:

To demonstrate on the use of solar energy for water pumping from underground water sources.
