Enhancing ecosystem productivity in community protected areas in Zuunkharaa.
Renamed: Developing production landscapes adjacent to community protected areas.
Objective: to develop production landscapes by increasing their productivity and strengthening herders' capacity to achieve harmonic functioning and mutual support of community protected areas and production landscapes at ecosystem level.
Implementation:
1. Establishing and developing community fruit gardens and centres in production zones adjacent to CCAs.
2. Bee keeping.
3. Reforestation and afforestation in CCAs.
4. Making handicrafts.
5. Harvesting medicinal herbs and wild berries for local markets.
Benefits and Impacts.
1. Herders possessed skills in new, non-traditional income generating activities, and thereby, strengthened their capacity.
2. Five more community fruit gardens established to make profits in two years.
3. Income is generated from bee products, seedlings, handicrafts, medicinal herbs and wild berries collected.
4. Community members well understand and recognize the importance of production landscapes in overall ecosystem functioning.
5. Cooperation between community groups as well as among community members has much increased and strengthened.
6. Productivity of production landscapes has increased.
