Context:
TAGRODE was established and registered as an NGO in 2001. In 2008, it acquired new registration under the NGO Act 2002. The main objective of TAGRODE is to support small scale farmers and pastoralists to increase productivity through improved production methods for increased livelihoods and sustainable development. In its support activities, TAGRODE collaborates with a number of likeminded organizations. Examples of interventions that the NGO has supported during its more than ten years of operations in Iringa Region include: Conservation, Agriculture, Sustainable Land Management, Nature Resources Management, Increased Water Access; Off-farm Income Generating activities, Gender and group dynamics. Through the proposed project TAGRODE intends to expand these interventions in Isimani division, Iringa Rural District. This district used to be a food granary for Iringa and Tanzania at large in the 1970s due to its high production of maize and beans. Due to climate change, rainfall has fallen drastically. The division is now one of the areas in Iringa region that live through food handouts.
Project?s Primary Objective:
To promote livelihoods through climate change adaptation in the water and agricultural sector for poor local communities in Iringa Rural District.
