REHABILITATION OF COMMUNITY WATER WELLS FOR INCREASED ACCESS TO SAFE AND CLEAN WATER IN SIX SUB-VILLAGES IN KYELA DISTRICT.
Context:

Tanzania is facing a significant problem on water related diseases. For instance, in 2009, WHO report indicated that Tanzania was losing the equivalent of 1 Million life years annually due to diseases related to unsafe water, sanitation and hygiene (WHO, 2009). Furthermore, hospital records across the country show that diarrheal related illnesses are leading causes for treatment in health facilities. Therefore, the proposed project intends to rehabilitate and improve 4 traditional water wells with the view to improving access to clean and safe water for 600 households with a total population of about 5,000 people. The project will also contribute to attaining the following key results: (i) contribute to achievement of MDG on water (ii) contribute to achievement of MDG on environment sustainability (iii) reducing workload on the part of women and girl-children (iv) improvement of people?s health and personal hygiene

About the Proponent:

LECADO was established and registered in 2010. LECADO focuses on improving traditional water wells by involving participation of local communities. This is why the proposed project intends to deliver water to local communities through rehabilitation of traditional water wells.

Project?s Primary Objective:

To increase access to clean and safe water for about 5,000 people through rehabilitation of 4 community water wells.

Implementation Strategies:
