Sustaining Marine Turtle Conservation in Sembehun, Liberia
Some key activities are envisaged to ensure that the objectives of the project are realized, and result into specific outcomes for the conservation of marine turtles. The 3 main outcomes that will emerge from this project include the following:
a. Monitoring of turtle nesting sites to protect against over-exploitation
b. Enhancing ecotourism opportunities through establishment of pilot ecotourism infrastructure
c. Providing awareness on turtle biodiversity conservation
The proposed activities have also been presented in the form of a framework; showing the responsible agency and duration of the activity (see Table 2 below).
Outcome A: Monitoring of turtle nesting sites to protect against over-exploitation
Proposed Activities for A: (i) GPS mapping of nesting sites, (ii) Recruiting and training monitoring and patrol team (ii) consultative meetings with key stakeholders.
Outcome B: Enhancing ecotourism opportunities through establishment of pilot ecotourism infrastructure
Proposed Activities B: (i) Consultative meeting with Sembehun community, (ii) Identification of site for ecotourism infrastructure development, (iii) Pilot development of ecotourism facilities for visitation and income generation, (iv) Training of locals to provide services for visitors, (v) Publicity to ensure visitation by tourists
Outcome C: Providing awareness on turtle biodiversity conservation
Proposed Activities C: (i) Creating conservation awareness on marine turtles; (ii) Distributing visibility materials on turtle preservation; (iii) Producing community radio programs in the local dialects (Via and Liberian English) for conservation awareness

Notable Community Participation
An in-depth consultation has already taken place, with discussions beginning in 2013 with community and stakeholders representative. This proposal has evolved as a direct result of that consultation process and a pre-project development visit which was undertaken from September by the project team .
Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment
Knowledge transfer and capacity building based on personal involvement of local people are at the heart of this project and hence dissemination is an integral aspect of what is planned.
