Empowering Liberian to tackle climate change through the propagation of Fuel efficient stoves
The overall goal of this project is to reduce tree harvesting /deforestation and improve health in Northwestern Liberia through a pilot project to build ovens and distribute fuel-efficient stoves. In addition, it aims to increase knowledge and understanding of some of the key drivers of tree destruction and the consequences of deforestation in rural communities.
Specifically, the project has the following objectives:
? Training of support group members, producers of ecostoves youth groups to manage projects and help in the production and distribution of stoves
? Improved knowledge in target villages of some of the key drivers of tree destruction and the consequences of deforestation in rural communities
? Reduced volume of firewood and charcoal used in four pilot villages
? Reduced damage to trees
? Facilitated skills transfer to enhance small business enterprise development and income generation
? Improved human welfare by the provision of a safer and more energy efficient cooking and heating technology.
The funding for this project will be used primarily for the production of 100 cooking stoves and 4 ovens; it will also include the training and establishment of nature clubs, Site Support Groups, accompanied by community outreach work to increase knowledge and understanding of some of the key drivers of climate change and the consequences of deforestation in rural communities.
