Gender Focus

? It has been selected both boys and girls school to get equal participation and build capacity on e-waste management ? A female project manager is proposed to lead the project to get more female attraction and involvement for the e-waste management sector, especially as a student, teacher or a loving mother ? The project has also open for the volunteers who are willing to work with

Notable Community Participation

Adolescent school children will be educated about the adverse effects of unprotected E-waste disposals and the importance of e-waste management. They will get public participation in minimizing unprotected e-waste disposals. ? School children will directly participate through school program (500 School Children) ? School Teachers will participate through school program and special program from National Institute of Education (150 Teachers) ? Target groups of the direct awareness programs will be selected government and non government representatives (50 Representatives) ? It will be get participated the general public of the area through public campaign (200 Individuals)

Capacity - Building Component

Comprehensive programs and massive campaigns will be organized in schools to create a positive behavioral change in school children about e-waste management. The school children will draw public attention of managing e- waste. Workshops will be conducted to introduce e-waste management to the officers in National Institute of Education in order to include E-waste management concept to the school curriculum. Training programmes will be conducted targeting local NGOs to encourage community.

Inovative Financial Mechanisms

It has been canvassed for co financing the project by Cooperate Social Responsibility (CSR) of related companies to increase the quality of the project and possible replications of the project concept.

Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment

It will be creatively utilized the social media (Face book, organization?s website, Group email etc) for public awareness campaign and get more people engaged to the project and share experience with others. It will be resulted more people aware on e- waste management and contribute to minimize releasing them to natural environment. Finaly this positive replicable intervention will contribute to protect air, water, soil and live on earth.

Policy Impact

Project experience will be shared with policy making bodies of the government and lobby for including e-waste management in to National curriculum by working closely with National Institute of Education and Central Environmental Authority Facilitating to include e-waste management concept in school curriculum with the support of National Institute of Education

Significant Participation of Indigenous Peoples

Project implementing team will get ideas from indigenous people and consult the leaders to get their contribution for the success of the project.

Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods

Project will create an opportunity to collect e-waste and supply some specific part at a reasonable rate which can be used to produce energy saving lamp. Waste collectors (Bottle and Paper) can collect domestic e-waste and sell to lamp producing center of the project Safe utilization of e-waste for fabricating energy saving equipment to generate employment opportunities

Planning non gef grant

The NGO has planned to upscale the e-waste collection network through the support of financial institutes of Sri Lanka.

Policy Influence

The NGO managed to introduce e-waste management lessons to the school curriculum through the active support of the National Institute of Education of Sri Lanka. The NGO is invited to share experiences on e-waste management with the Ministry of Environment of Sri Lanka.

Project sustainability

The e-waste collection network will be functional even after the project conclusion. Dismantling and exporting of e-waste will be carried out with the partnership of international e-waste exporters. The NGO is working with the National Institute of Education as resource persons in the e-waste management sector.

Project Results

1. An e-waste collecting network was established within Colombo South municipality area which consisted of 162 small shops and 43 private companies and 1 NGO.

2. An e-waste collection and processing center was established and license was obtained from the government to collect and processes e-waste. More than 4 tons of e-waste was collected and processed through the center up to date.

3. Workshops and training programs were conducted for school children, private sector companies and government officials to raise the awareness about the emerging e-waste problem.

4. E-waste management lessons were introduced to the school curriculum through the support of National Institute of Education of Sri Lanka.

5. E-waste management concept was promoted among the general public and school students through art, poster, and video competitions and through social media and mass media.
