The primary aim of the planning grant is to make assessment to supplement the data, information needed to develop fully project in pursuit of contribution to UN REDD Vietnam phase 2 plan. Activities conducted are (i) Making survey/assessment: The objective of the assessment is to find out the gap between current capacity and expected capacity to prepare for REDD++ implemented in 6 provinces. Therefore survey is conducted in 6 locations including Lam Dong, Ca mau, Binh Thuan, Ha Tinh, Bac Can, Lao Cai in order to choose the appropriate location which suits the best with criteria of REDD++. Related information is about community's expectation and their potential of participation, advantages and disadvantages of community on forest protection, livelihood development and management. The target groups of the assessment are not limited to local government including forest protection unit, department of agriculture and rural development, commune, village local authority and villagers (ethnic minorities). The output od the assessment is written report which is for designing anf development of full project proposal. (ii) Organizing a workshop to get consultaion from different stakeholders including Vietnam administration of forestry, Vietnam REDD+ office, Committe on Ethnic and Minority Affairs.
