Improving the quality of life and livelihood of rural Community through sustainable use of local resources at S.24 Paraganas district,West Bengal.
A similar project has been successfully completed at Sagar Island S. 24. Most activities will be centered on Biodiversity conservation, socio-economic up-liftment through local resource management & equitable sharing of benefits by the local community at selected villages of Sagar Island (7 villages), Pathar Pratima (6 villages) & Diamond Harbour Block-II (4 villages),District South Parganas,West Bengal involving a total HH of about 7500.These will be done mainly by empowering the local community through proper training (especially on capacity building, eco-friendly and alternative employment generation activities like Vermi-composting ,kitchen gardening, diversified integrated bio-farming including poultry, livestock, fishery, forestry, etc.) as climate resilient livelihood development to uplift themselves on their own through effective conservation and management of local resources , soil health and most importantly their living environment. This undoubtedly resulted in Sustainable economic growth along with biodiversity conservation. relevant enterprise development is considered as one of the major activities.

Capacity - Building Component
20 boys and girls will be trained on VDP to develop their knowledge & skills and formulate village level action plan. 25 candidates will be trained on IFS. 75 candidates will be trained on Nutritional kitchen Garden & fruits plant propagation. 75 members will be trained on poultry and 75 on goatary including at least 3 women who will be trained as Master trainer of Livestock (Amargarm Pranibandhu), 30 members will be trained on different vocational trades to enhance their knowledge, skills and capacity to manage and utilize the local resources for sustainable agricultural yields and to increase their income from different sources. 50 candidates will be trained on production of vermin composting and other organic inputs. 10 candidates will be trained on education & health service provide.
Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment
Awareness camps on health, hygiene, education, energy, plantation etc will be organized to improve the quality of life (health and education standard). 3 Community Study Centres will be formed for supporting 50/60 children/ centre. One community Development Co-operatives will be established for selling locally produced items. Awareness programs (5 demonstrations) on solar cooker (without any carbon emission), conventional gobar gas plants with fixed cemented dome, and improved cook stoves, solar light will be organized.
