Community Based Adaptation to Climate Change through Improvement of Water Irrigation Construction and Food Security at Kampong Por Commune.
Base on VRA results that conducted on October 10, 2012, ANKO had developed a proposal focus on:
Small irrigation in community is broken down not keep water to farm in dry season, channels in community are low and lack of water, do not have water gates to keep water for enhancing the rice farm land in community, crops shortage to meet the farm situation in the community, farm produce technical of family members in community are limited.
ANKO developed the proposal to address above problems by implementing water gates maintenance and construction, set up water user committee, sustainable of the irrigation, village rice bank will be constructed for store the rice contribution, capacity building on technical for dry season rice growing to community leader and rice field demonstrate. This project will implement in four target villages at Kampong Pou commune, Krakor district, Pursat province, Cambodia.
Goal and objectives
1. At the end of 2013, 415 hectares of land cover in 4 villages (Kampong La, Pou Kod, Pou Robang and Chekchao) which there are 4,471 persons include 2,270 women have enough water for dry and rainy season farming through improvement of irrigation system construction and rehabilitation. Objectives:
2. At least 415 hectares of rice field cover four villages (Kampong La, Pou Kod, Pou Robang and Chekchao village) of Kampong Pou commune have enough water to conduct dry season rice farming with irrigation rehabilitation and constructing a new irrigation.
3. At least 4 places of dry season rice farming were conducted with both irrigations rehabilitation and new construction
Project main outputs
1-Maintenance one water gate at Kampong Lor River with 14 meters long and construct one new water gate at Kampong Thpol pagoda with 9 meters long
2- Establish one community of water user group with 12 members (4 persons are women) to manage these water gates
3- Construct a rice bank for rice contribution stock.
4- Train 24 farmer leaders (8 persons are women) on technique for rice field demonstration, and establish 4 rice field demonstrations
5-Establish 4 saving groups with 32 members and among them, 21 members are women
