Rehabilitation of Degraded Land through Organic Farming
Rehabilitation of Degraded Land through Organic Farming
Baseline study showed that more than one third (38% ) HHs in the project area has land 0.25-0.5 ha of land, about a quarter of HHs ( 27%) has 0.5-0.75 ha land and about 19% HHs has land less than 0.25 ha of land. Likewise farmers having 0.75-1 ha land and more than one ha land are equal in number (8%). On the other hand, the productivity per ha of only 815kg is quite low revealing food deficit in the area.

Annual consumption of chemical fertlisers and pesticides in the project area as per the household survey is estimate on an average 13.08 and 1.55 kg/year/HH respectively. On the other hand an average per household size of cows/ox, buffalo, goat, pig and chicken is 1.92, 2.0, 4.56, 1.0 and 9.38 respectively, which indicates ample possibility for the production of farmyard manure and initiate organic farming.

Thus the project aimed to built local capacity for promoting organic farming and organic manure production.
