Project name: Promotion of poor community livelihood through climate change adaptation in 3 villages (Village 2, 4 and 6), Prek Achi commune, Kroch Chhmar district, Kampong Cham province
To ensure that by the end of 2014 3,672 people, 1,656 women, and 1,518 children from 748 HHs, of them 118 are poor families in 3 villages (Village 4, 5, and 6) in Prek Achi commune, Kroch Chhmar district, Kampong Cham province, have improved livelihoods through the project and necessary capacity to reduce their vulnerability to climate extremes such as change in rainfall pattern. The goal can be achieved through building of a dike, sluice gate, and rehabilitation of a primary canal, Boeng Toch reservoir, and the provision of drought resistant farming technologies including life skills for seed selection recognized by Kampong Cham provincial Department of Agriculture.
Outcome 1: 748 farmers from 3 target villages have a dike, a sluice gate, and a primary canal connecting to Boeng Toch reservoir to enable provision of sufficient water for irrigating 113 ha land and to benefit 2,125 people, 1,518 women, and 1,518 children, from 425 HHs.
Output 1.1: A Water User Committee with 11 members, at least 5 women, selected from the 3 villages to maintain and repair the irrigation facility and to manage water use and distribution.
Output 1.2: 200 m dike (1.5 m height, and 4 m top width), a sluice gate (with 2.1 m opening), a primary canal (10 m top width, 5 m bottom width, and 1.7 m depth) with a sign mark bearing the project name built by the end of March 2014.
Outcome 2: 75 farmers from 3 villages have increased their rice yield from 2.5 to 3 tonnes a hectare with 25 HHs from each village selected for rice farming and a group of 15 members for rice seed production to supply high yield and climate resistant seed sufficient to meet the demand within their community and their neighborhood for dry season farming.
Output 2.1: 75 HHs from 3 villages, 25 HHs from each village, 15 of them selected as model farmers, to receive training on SRI and with 15 field demonstration to compare between traditional and SRI farming practices in collaboration with provincial Department of Agriculture.
Output 2.2: A new rice bank established with 75 memberships from 3 villages in the initial stage, opening for membership expansion in time.
Output 2.3: A rice seed production group of 15 HHs from 3 villages developed capacity to produce and supply drought and flood resistant rice seeds.
Outcome 3: Farmers from 60 HHs (60% women) built capacity to adapt to drought with 3 saving groups established to develop an integrated farming system and petty businesses.
Output 3.1: 3 saving groups established with a 2 day training session received on administrative and financial management, and with by-law and internal rule established.
Output 3.2: Members of 3 saving groups in the target villages received capital to start their livelihood activities;
Output 3.3: M&E and case study conducted, supporting documents produced through video production and reflection workshops and findings from vulnerability reduction assessment (VRA), and final project evaluation documented for presenting to donor.
