Often most of conservation action of National Parks are limited to vertebrate species and plants, while invertebrate stays on the residue principle and rarely received budgeted actions. Same time anthropological pressure lies on insects too. For example in Katon-Karagai area (National Park and buffer zones) a lot of clay beats are used by local population for building process, while same clay beats are very good (and sometimes the only available) substance for building nest by Digger Wasp species, some of which are red listed.
Project aim is the demonstration of opportunities to restore the number of rare Digger Wasp species in Katon-Karagai district by developing the nesting sites.
Artificial nesting sites will be constructed (involving eco-tourists school clubs and school forest farms) and installed in villages of Aksu, Uryl, Katon-Karagai. Awareness rising activities will be held among local students and communities about value of Digger Wasp species and problem of degradation on their natural habitat.
Digger Wasps play an important role in nature by controlling populations of number of harmful for forest, plant and animal pests (insects and spiders). Other species of Digger Wasps also pollinate plant species including those in Red Book.
